Montenegro votes for independence: 55.5% in favour

Montenegro's independence referendum closed today with 55.5% voting to leave the union with Serbia, clearing the 55% threshold by the narrowest of margins. Polling ran late into the evening and the result was announced after midnight. The republic is expected to declare independence within days, leaving Serbia a state in its own right.
