Several dozen cars with foreign plates, including American ones, have been seized across Serbia. The main reason is that the vehicles were effectively uninsured and not properly registered for driving on Serbian roads, which directly endangers traffic safety. Police inspectors from abroad, including from the United States, took part in the checks alongside Serbian police. The rules are clear: a Serbian resident may drive a foreign-registered vehicle only if they hold temporary or permanent residence abroad for more than six months. Serbian citizens residing in the country are not allowed to drive a foreign-plate car without its owner — a foreign national or a person with residence abroad — present; otherwise it is a customs offence and unauthorised use.
