What the account costs
Alta banka sells accounts as packages, which matters because the price depends heavily on the package chosen. In the official tariff, keeping an account for residents and non-residents costs 330 dinars a month, but the packages differ: the Komfor package is 150 dinars a month, and the Komfor Vibe package is advertised with no monthly account fee at all. For young clients aged 18 to 27 without a job there is a separate offer with a zero fee.
What the free package includes
According to the bank's description, Komfor Vibe includes a dinar and a foreign currency account, Visa Classic and DinaCard debit cards, and mobile and electronic banking with currency exchange inside the app. That is the basic set anyone off the street needs, available without a monthly payment. The bank changes package terms from time to time, so check the current description on its website before signing up.
What is required to open an account
The standard set: confirmation of address, that is the 'white card', and a passport. According to community reports, Alta sometimes asks for more: a notarised predgovor — a preliminary purchase contract for a flat. That means the account is opened for a specific transaction rather than for future plans. In addition, before crediting large sums the bank may ask for documents on the origin of the money.
Practice: the pluses and minuses
Two things stand out from reports. The positive one: changing non-resident status to resident is quick — for one participant it took about half an hour and the card did not have to be replaced, whereas other banks close the account and issue a new card weeks later. The negative one: Alta's documentation requirements are above average, so it is not a place to walk into empty-handed.
What to do step by step
Check on the website which package applies today and what it includes. Collect the documents: white card, passport, proof of your ground (employment contract, sole trader registration or a transaction contract). If you are buying property and the bank asks for a predgovor, have it notarised in advance. And keep documents on the origin of funds ready if you plan to deposit a large sum.
