What it is and what it is for

The residence confirmation is the analogue of a registration certificate: proof that you live and are registered at a specific address. Once you obtain residence, the white card is no longer issued to you, so in situations where it used to be required, this confirmation is requested instead. It is not compulsory, but it is asked for often, and it is indispensable wherever the address must be proven.

Where it is requested

The main cases: changing non-resident status at a bank, adding your residence number to a sole-trader business, obtaining a criminal record certificate, arranging state insurance if you have a sticker, sometimes exchanging a driving licence, and tax matters. In short, any time a paper confirmation of your address and status is needed, this is where you go.

What it says

The basic version states your name and citizenship as in your passport, date and place of birth, passport number and issuing authority, your registered address, your foreigner's number, and confirmation that temporary residence has been approved — but without dates. If you ask for the extended version, the dates of all your residence permits are added, each on its own line. If you need to prove periods, say so at once: the basic version contains no dates.

What it costs and how long it takes

The fee is 860 dinars, covering both the application and the issue. The confirmation is issued immediately on the spot, but Belgrade requires prior booking: you email the MUP's foreigner affairs department, wait for a reply with a date and time, and come on the appointed day to collect the document. Important details: it can only be obtained in the city where you are registered, and not while you are awaiting a residence extension or a first decision — you need the status itself first.

Booking and attendance

If the confirmation is needed for you and family members, list everyone by name in the booking email: one form per person, so for three people you complete three forms and send them in one email. And one more point: in Belgrade, the personal presence of everyone listed is required. If you booked only the confirmation and then moved, the document will be issued for the old address, and an address-change application will not be accepted without a separate appointment. So settle the address first, then book.

What to do step by step

Make sure the residence permit is already in hand and no extension is in progress. Decide on the address: if you plan to move, change the address first. Collect the details of everyone who needs the confirmation and send a single booking request listing them all. Wait for the reply and come at the appointed time with the whole family. Pay the fee and collect the document on the spot. And if needed, ask at once for the extended version with the dates of all your permits.
